The dormant bookworm suggests…

Books I can’t wait to read

There are many things I want to do now that I have submitted - reading is in the top three of that list. During uni, most of my reading has been for academic purposes, but now I get to finally take a look at my personal bookshelf. While I may not have been reading a lot, I have not stopped buying books - guilty. Now, the unread list is long so I’m going to start by sharing three books that I will read first and follow up with reviews over the next month.

Champion Mindset - Patrick Mouratoglou

Ever since going to Wimbledon, I have become really interested in the world of Tennis. Not necessarily as a player, but as an observer. As with all sports, I always admire the mindset that the players have to commit physically, emotionally and mentally. It’s never just about the game, it’s the journey, the lifestyle, the mindset that makes them champions.

Patrick Mouratoglou is Naomi Osaka’s tennis coach and has just released this book about the mindset needed to be a champion, not just in sport, but in life. As someone who has just completed a milestone at uni, I am feeling motivated to look forward to the next. I have been watching a lot of his Instagram reels where he offers a lot of free advice, so I’m curious to know what knowledge will be shared in this book. I was so excited about this book that I preordered it and it arrived the day I submitted my final assignment - feels very serendipity.

Real Artists Don’t Starve - Jeff Goins

I actually bought this book last year but never got far. It’s the type of book that you read and need to make notes while reading to really ingrain it in your system. However between my uni assignments, working and creating content, my schedule didn’t really allow for that level of commitment - but things have now changed.

This book is about the actions that come as a result of truly believing in your craft as an artist, a creative. Goins breaks down myths that creative industries or talents are a disadvantage and instead unpacks ways to use it as a superpower. I know this because my sister has read it and shared her notes with me which encouraged me to buy the book for myself. I also tried to listen to it as an audio book on my commute, but now I am ready to give it my full undivided attention.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow - Gabrielle Zevin

This is another book that I started a while ago and didn’t get to finish. I have many other non fiction, encouragement and motivational style books patiently waiting on my bookshelf, but I chose this fiction book for a reason. When I was younger, I always loved the feeling of getting lost in a book. I mean really getting lost. When I read, there is no time zone, no limit to what is and what can be. Reading offers a real break, a type of holiday. So I want to reintroduce that in my lifestyle.

This book is about two friends that start a video game company together and that’s about all I know. I got this in a bookstore a while ago when it first came out since it was very popular and I was curious to know if it was worth all the hype. Well, I will know soon and will come back with a full review to report.

A review of all these books will be coming soon once I’ve read them. I’m so excited about each and looking forward to the others on my list. Make sure to subscribe to this blog below via email for updates on latest releases.
