Are you graduation ready? Part 3
Another day, another part of the “Are you graduation ready?” series. Today I will be sharing content ideas to remember the big day. I am super excited for this day and the content I will make. I already have an extensive list of saved graduation trends on TikTok, but I also want to have some more intentional videos and blog posts to commemorate the day. This list will be for more content creation people who wan to maximise the day, but also for anyone who doesn’t post as much, but just wants some tips on how best to capture content to look back on. You don’t have to post it all, sometimes it’s nice to have memories to yourself. So take a look at this list for your socials, Longford videos or written content.
Instagram/TikTok
Me then vs. me now
The angle you want to take with this video is really up to you. You might want to see the humour from the drastic physical changes, or take the more emotional route highlighting the character development. The treatment of the video can be a carousel of pictures, an Instagram story or a short video featuring two clips from the start and end of uni.
Cap toss
As far as I am concerned, the movies lied to us. There is a no official cap toss during graduations - I believe it has become a bit of a safety hazzard so it has been discontinued officially from graduations. However, you can always find a nice area with some classmates or even individually and throw that cap into the sky - it will make for a great video, just make sure you are being safe.
Best moments from uni
Compilation video of all your fond moments over the years at uni, you might want to add in the good and the bad for a more wholistic vue, then end the video with you at your graduation. You can always use a trending audio if you would like to boost your video, but I suggest being a bit more intentional and maybe use a sound that relates to your personal uni journey. What lyrics matches your journey or what song would you play during your late study days?
Longform videos
Day in the life vlog
This video is great for yourself as well as your viewers. The day might go by so quickly, but this video will allow you to reminisce on the great day. You can capture as much or as little of the day as you’d like and have it as a time capsule. Your viewers (myself included) LOVE these type of videos because 1) it is a fun and engaging day to watch, they can see your whole journey of uni life come to an end. 2) They might not know what a graduation day looks like so it could also serve as an educational purpose. My advice is to get friends/family to capture most of the content for you so you still get to be present.
Who will I be?
A YouTube video where you ask your future self a couple questions that you can answer in 5, 10, 15 years time. This is a great opportunity for what I like to call audible vision boarding. Think about the type of person you want to be and ask questions around that. Did you get that dream job? Are you living in the high rise? Do you have a boyfriend? (All very valid😂). Set a date or timeline that you will come back to that video to answer those questions. This will motivate you to achieve those goals, but will also take your audience on that journey. Your online community love to feel involved as if they are privy to exclusive information that future fans won’t know about - let them in on your journey.
Get ready with me
This might sound the basis and generic type of content, but there are ways you can get creative with it. You can film this as if it was a short movie or even reality series. Have some break away scenes with confession cameras, get your friends and family involved, get some B roll of your outfit - maybe try to do it in the style of your favourite TV show/movie! Or you can use it as a time to reflect and share some stories of your favourite times at uni. Even if you just get ready for your graduation and don’t use any of these editing ideas, your audience will still love to see the BTS content from the amazing Instagram content that you will have.
Blog style
Graduation letter
Write a letter to your future self or to your class, reflecting on growth, gratitude, and goals. I actually already did this on this blog which you can go and read now. Doing things like this is not just cute content, but also helps you mentally to put an end to this chapter of your life on a good note. To push it further with a personalised touch, maybe accompany this blog with a reel of you reading this out with some clips of you and your classmates at uni.
For first years
If you are in first year or about to enter first year, this one is for you. I wish I had done this myself, but I literally just thought of it as I was writing this blog. Write a letter to yourself that you will read on your graduation day, then video yourself reading it out. This will be. Avery cute way to honour your younger self and officially close the chapter. What you write in the letter is completely up to you, it can be advice, compliments, questions etc…completely up to you.
Photo diary
You might not be a vlogger at heart, but photography is where you shine. Why not capture the day through photos either on your phone or your camera and create a visual diary with all the pictures you accumulated in the day. You can present it as a photo dump with you and your peers which will be nice to look at as a scrapbook style. But if you want to put your creative director hat on, you might want to consider curating your photos in a way to tell a story. That can be though editing or adding some additional text around the images. This idea can also be used for socials.
I love to create content to be able to look back on special moments in my life. There are many people who say to be present but ironically, this is my way of doing it. I capture content I love, then edit and post in my own time. When I am old and grey sitting with my future horses in my farmhouse, these are the videos I will be looking back on and I will thank my younger self for making them. Do it for your future self!
