You’re hot and you’re cold
3 staple pieces to beat this up-and-down weather
I’ve been people watching a lot lately to see what people are wearing during this pre-summer, mid-spring weather. For those who have to leave the house early in the morning when it isn’t as warm then come back in the blazing heat – it can be quite tricky to know what to wear. I find myself having to choose to be cold in the morning or too hot in the afternoon. But what if I told you there was another way… Here are three staples I have noticed Londoners wearing as soon as the sun puts its hat on in May.
The Denim Jacket
Denim in general will work in your favour. It has stood the test of time for a reason. You wear it in the morning if it’s a little chilly with a promise of a heatwave later in the day, then wrap it around your waist in the afternoon for the early 2000s Coachella look. Denim goes with almost any and everything, so it really is a long-term investment piece.
You can find it in almost every shop at the moment in a range of variations from the classic to diamond-studded. Do you have yours yet?
A black bodycon dress
The girlies were right when they said we all need a little black dress. I love having that one dress that I can just throw on last minute and still look good in with minimal effort.
For this weather, a midi dress with a little side slit is your best friend for many reasons. Covering your knees keeps you warm in case the wind picks up. The dark colour protects you from any unexpected potential sweat marks. A stretchy fabric will always work in your favour if you go for a really good meal and feel a little bloated – this dress got you!
Ballerina Flats
These are a great shoe for this weather because it’s cutesy to match a skirt, but won’t leave you freezing if temperatures take a turn while you’re wearing a sandal.
I personally wasn’t an immediate fan of the mesh shoes, but the girls over at Eliza convinced me and, with the proper styling, they are a Spring/Summer staple. These are opaque, breathable, and also have some glitzy sparkle on them.
If you have those three pieces, you should be just fine. I have been rotating between them, sometimes wearing all three together, other times purely wearing my denim Canadian suit. Make sure to subscribe via email below for updates on latest posts!
